RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction Manager (CM): The CM is responsible to ensure that all required surveys are completed. The CM is also to verify with Survey Division (SD) that final post-construction re-establishment of Survey Monumentation is complete.
Survey Division (SD): The SD is responsible for re-establishing or verifying the re-establishment of damaged or destroyed survey monuments.
Contractor: Contractor is responsible for all costs associated with pre-construction monument preservation, protecting, or re-establishing any survey monuments.
PROCEDURE
The term "monumentation" generally implies some physical evidence found in place to define a survey point or a survey line. To assure a continuous record of the original survey, the monumentation utilized may be described as being a natural, artificial, record, or legal monument. The distinction between the various types of monumentation and the legal requirements as to precedence can be found in surveying textbooks. Since standards for monumentation vary, the type of monument for a specific type of survey should be described in the applicable sections of the Survey Division Manual.
As a project reaches the 75% completion level, the CM should contact the SD to initiate the post construction monumentation survey. The Senior Survey Supervisor responsible for the project will complete the recovery or installation of required monuments in accordance with the practice delineated in the Bureau of Engineering Survey Division Manual (Part J).
